Climbing wall, Basildon Sporting Village

Client: Rockworks

Status: Complete

Working closely with specialist climbing wall designers and manufacturers Rockworks, Patrick Parsons developed a flexible, cost-effective structural system to support this large lead climbing wall and separate, smaller bouldering wall at a brand new leisure centre.

The complex surface profiles of these multifaceted walls demands a high level of adjustability and adaptability, yet the structure has to be extremely robust, withstanding the load exerted by a falling climber on a single protection point. Patrick Parsons visited Rockworks’ fabrication facilities and consulted with them in-depth throughout the project to ensure a solution that suited their range of capabilities.

Basildon Sporting Village opened in April 2011.
