Refurbishment of Black Gate, Newcastle upon Tyne
1st April 2011

Patrick Parsons Limited are very pleased to be working with Purcell Miller Tritton and Thornton Firkin completing the refurbishment of Black Gate in Newcastle upon Tyne as part of the Old Newcastle Project.

Black Gate is a Grade I listed building and stands within the grounds of the Castle Garth which is a Scheduled Monument, the buildings are the oldest non-ecclesiastical buildings in Newcastle upon Tyne.  The building which has historically been used as a fortress, jail and library was built in 13th Century by Henry III.

The aim of the project is to create a heritage-led education and interpretation centre which will provide a tourist attraction giving an insight into the historic significance of the city.
