St Bride’s back in action after six-month renovation

St Bride’s Church, East Kilbride, recently reopened its doors to parishioners after six months of extensive renovations.

Patrick Parsons were appointed to provide structural engineering services in the repair and restoration of the Grade ‘A’ Listed building is regarded as one of the finest examples of British twentieth-century ecclesiastical architecture.

The project included urgent and necessary works to address brick deterioration, roof covering replacement, water ingress, structural integrity, heating, safety and maintenance issues. Patrick Parsons input involved strengthening of the masonry wall ties as well as structural assessment of the masonry walls, steel roof trusses and other structural alterations internally and externally.

The aim of the project was to provide a structurally sound, wind and watertight building with restored original features, which allows natural light into the interior as originally intended and provides safe access for future maintenance.

The works have provided an improved experience for parishioners, the local community and visitors, and has returned the church to a condition closer to its original design intent.
