The Patrick Parsons Geo-Environmental consultancy team have recently finished the final phase of the investigation works at Silk Park in Hendon, for our client St George.

This development will deliver a private and affordable housing scheme providing 1,309 homes, set within a 1.5-hectare public park which includes water features and an opening to the historic Silk Stream. The scheme will offer a relaxing and biodiverse space for present and future residents of Hendon to enjoy. This mixed-use development will also include a 43,000 s.q. ft flagship Sainsburys store, as well as 10,000 s.q. ft of commercial space for offices, cafés and restaurants.

Our Geo-Environmental consultancy team has recently completed the final stage of the multiphase ground investigation works for the scheme. As the development includes high rise heavily loaded structures over a wide basement parking level, deep boreholes using cable percussive and sonic drilling rigs were progressed within the development footprint to obtain information for the piled foundation design. Shallow window sample boreholes, plate load testing and dynamic probing was undertaken to assess the near surface soils for construction of the temporary car park, bulk excavation of the finished proposed car park and to provide information for the human health assessment, gas risk assessment and waste classification.

Ongoing correspondence with the Environmental Health Officer and submission of supporting documents, such as remediation method statements, have also been completed to satisfy planning conditions relating to contaminated land.

As well as being an active part of the pre-construction design aspect of this scheme, we are also providing ongoing monitoring of the adjacent Silk Stream to determine if the site works are having any discernible impact on water quality.

This development has had a number of key environmental and geotechnical principles for us to consider, promising to provide a new green corridor for Hendon, we are proud to be a part of such an impressive mixed-use development scheme.
