After their recent success at the RICS Renaissance Awards in April, Patrick Parsons once again have two projects nominated in the Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards taking place on Friday 7 May 2010. Held every year in May, the Constructing Excellence in the North East Awards are “a celebration of everything the North East construction industry has to be proud of”.
The Irvin Building of North Shields is nominated in the Heritage Award category, with competition from another Patrick Parsons project, the Gunners Pool Bridge at Castle Eden Dene.
The Irvin Building, which last month won the Residential category at the North East RICS Renaissance Awards, was officially opened in February 2009. Owned by Gentoo the iconic building boasts 26 luxury apartments, a dental surgery and a restaurant.
Gunners Pool Bridge at Castle Eden had been condemned by an earlier survey by another engineering company. Using Roped Access Techniques in the Castle Eden Gorge Patrick Parsons were able to provide a detailed survey and analysis for restoration and the wrought iron bridge was restored to it’s former splendour and reopened to the public in May 2009.
Mark Turner, director at Patrick Parsons said “It’s great to see our projects receive recognition, for all those involved. We as a company believe that historic and heritage sites should be maintained or restored to their former glory as much as possible and will do all we can as engineers to ensure that these important landmarks are around for generations to come”.
