Following the success of our previous Women in Engineering event for International Women’s Day, Patrick Parsons delivered another industry panel discussion and networking event.

On the 13th July we held our second Women in Engineering event, in London. The panel discussion was designed to allow people to have a safe space to discuss some of the more difficult topics around gender inequality within the industry. The discussion covered the themes of conscious inclusion, confidence & balance and intersectionality. Our panellists also shared some of the challenges they have faced and their hopes for the future of women in the engineering sector.

Our special guest panellists were made up of:

  • Olivia Plunkett-Hanson, Associate Engineer at Patrick Parsons
  • Jo Bradley, UK Director of Operations, Stormwater Shepherds
  • Caterina Polidoro, Director, TP Bennett
  • Kasia Dziala, Technical Manager, Mount Anvil

Caterina Polidoro, panellist and Director at TP Bennett, said: “It was great to hear from the other panellists about the challenges they have faced and still face working in the built environment. For me it is about cultural change and a serious planned commitment from the boards in the construction industry to implement it.”

The event was hosted by Patrick Parsons Civil Engineer, A’isha Baig, who was the driving force behind the event. A’isha developed the idea for the event alongside Marketing Manager, Tara Kennedy, with full support from the Senior Partners.

Tara Kennedy, Marketing Manager at Patrick Parsons, said: “It has been wonderful to see so many people attend our events, showing their support for women in our industry. This has been a great event to be involved in and I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the diverse experiences of our panellists. I look forward to supporting with the delivery of more events like this in the future.”

The event was well attended by a diverse audience from across the industry, which allowed for insightful debates between the panellists and attendees.

Attendee and Patrick Parsons Structural Engineer, Polly Sideri said: “I am really pleased to have attended this Women in Engineering event and I am grateful for the opportunity to hear from inspiring and thought provoking female engineers.”

We would like to thank everyone that attended and supported this event. As a company, Patrick Parsons will continue to highlight and fight for gender equality within our sector. To keep up to date with our future events, please sign up to our mailing list.
