Last week we held the final round of our IT project competition for college students, studying their Level 3 BTEC In Computing Studies.
Led by our IT Manager Stephen Pearson, the competition saw students from Wakefield College and Activate Learning campuses put their knowledge to a test in a work based project. Stephen challenged the students to produce an action plan for merging two IT systems, for a theoretical business merger.
This project was a great way for the students to see how what they are learning on their course can be applied to real work situations and gave them an insight into some of the tasks they might be required to carry out when they are eventually in the work place.
Taking place over 2 stages, the competition first saw students from each college compete amongst each other with a winner announced for each college. With time to take on board any feedback from Stephen, these winners then went head to head to compete in a Wakefield College Vs Activate Learning final round.
Overall we were very impressed by the level of effort the students all put into their projects, the quality of their presentations and confidence when presenting their ideas back to Stephen and their peers.
Congratulations to the students from Activate Learning, who took the crown in the final round! Well done to everyone that participated, we hope that you found the experience valuable.
