Patrick Parsons provided engineering design services to aid the hotel and commercial development situated on Howard Street, which will stand as another key element in the continuing the Howard Street modernisation and regeneration of Glasgow’s city centre.

The development consists of ground and first floor retail spaces beneath a seven storey, 250 room Premier Inn Hotel for Whitbread and will incorporate ‘Bar and Block’ restaurant in St Enochs Square. The building backs onto the Custom House (listed category A) which fronts the riverside and will complete the link from Buchannan Street, through St Enoch’s Square to join with the Clyde waterfront.

Patrick Parsons assisted with the pre-construction requirements and considered mitigation of ground borne vibration effects which, for the development tenant, are stringent. The design included piled substructure and basement infill, whilst satisfying the criteria of the SPT subway tunnels which lie less than 4m from the nearest piled foundation.
