Patrick Parsons provided civil, structural and Geo-Environmental services for a major Walsall regeneration project on the site of a former gas works.

The project is part of Walsall Housing Group’s Brownhills regeneration scheme and will see the site transformed into a 39-unit block of apartments that will provide a mixture of social and private housing, including apartments for over 55s.

Challenges included ground contaminated with free cyanide and elevated sulphates but these were dealt with quickly and effectively without causing delays as the teams are closely together throughout the project.

The approved remediation scheme included a combination of off-site disposal and clean cover soil systems.

Removal of the worst contaminant hotspots were supervised as well as site supervision as the ground remediation works progress.
