Work is due to be completed on the £3.5million scheme to upgrade the existing white-water course adjacent to the Tees Barrage. As part of the design team led by EPD, Patrick Parsons acted as Consulting Engineers and provided the civil and structural design, and in conjunction with EPD provided site supervision.

The design includes the modification of the existing course and the introduction of a new short course and the installation of four 13 metre long by 3.5 metre diameter Archimedes Screws to generate the ideal water conditions for paddlerponts and maximise course recirculation. The Archimedes Screws have been designed to provide a source of renewable energy to the National Grid when the course is not in use making it the first energy self sufficient whitewater course in Europe. The course is a designated Olympic training venue, and also provides Swift Water rescue training facilities.
