Mihajlo Gojkovic promoted to Associate

7 November 2022

Mihajlo has been part of our Civils team in Twickenham for the past 5 years and we are delighted to announce that he has recently been promoted to Associate Engineer. We caught up with him to discuss the highlights of his career at Patrick Parsons thus far.

Can you describe your career at Patrick Parsons to date?

I joined Patrick Parsons back in October 2017 as an engineer. Early in my career at Patrick Parsons being able to adapt quickly was very important because of how fast paced things were. As difficult as it was, it’s also helped me to grow very quickly and expand my knowledge of projects, our clients and given me the ability to juggle different things at the same time, not only projects, but other things too such as office management etc.

I am very passionate about what I do. I was always willing to put myself forward and didn’t shy away from challenges, which I think has helped me to progress and develop to where I am now.

Can you tell us about your new role as Associate Engineer and what it will entail?

My new position as Associate Engineer will mean stepping a bit away from the more technical side of sitting down and designing, to be more focused on client relationships, project management, attending more client meetings, the scopes of works and tendering.

I’ll have more responsibility and I look forward to working with our clients in a more in-depth capacity. I’ll continue to mentor my junior colleagues. I do enjoy teaching our younger team members, I spend a lot of my time with them, discussing projects and sharing ideas.

What does this promotion mean to you?

It’s obviously nice to be recognised for my hard work and know that my time and effort hasn’t gone unnoticed. I think it will just give me that confidence to go even further in my career. It has given me a new sense of assurance in my own abilities and knowledge, which I’ll be able to use when delivering to our clients.

What are your career goals?

As engineers, every project that you do you’re leaving something behind. I feel like I am already achieving my career goal in the day-to-day work that I do. It’s not about what position I’m in, it’s about what I’ve achieved and what is my legacy is going to be.

The best pleasure and one of the things that I love doing the most is when I walk around London with friends and I can just point and say, ‘I designed that…I know exactly what that manhole is down there and who it’s serving’. It’s these little things and being able to tell your friends and show that off. I think that’s the career goal for every engineer.

There’s probably not a single burrow in London or a single crane that’s hanging above London that we haven’t looked at and I can say ‘I know what’s going on there, I know what’s being built’. It’s a real sense of achievement.

What are the best things about working at Patrick Parsons?

The people I work with are the best thing about being part of the Patrick Parsons team. A few of us have been around for a number of years now and have been through thick and thin. Our team is close and we’re friends, not just in the office, but outside the office as well. It’s not just the Civils team, this goes across the other disciplines and offices as well.

How do you feel about your future at Patrick Parsons?

I’ve been here for five years, so I’ve seen the changes and I can see it continuing to develop and grow. The direction it’s taking is a positive one and I think there is a very bright future for all of us at Patrick Parsons.
