Jockey Club Racecourses appointed our Ash Vale office in a bid to promote sustainable travel at their flagship Cheltenham Racecourse.

Our team provided specialist highway engineering services to Jockey Club Racecourses for a number of years and produced a Travel Plan as part the major £45m investment in the new Princess Royal Grandstand at Cheltenham Racecourse, which opened in 2015.

The Travel Plan promotes sustainable forms of transport for racegoers and staff travelling to and from the site and sets challenging targets to reduce car use. As Travel Plan Coordinator, we are now responsible for monitoring and reviewing the Plan’s performance over a 10-year period, introducing measures to improve uptake where necessary.

Around 260,000 visitors attend the annual 4-day Cheltenham Festival at the racecourse in March, with increasing numbers of visitors attending other popular race meetings throughout the year. The overall aims are to reduce traffic congestion and delays, reduce CO2 and NOx emissions from vehicle exhausts and lead to improvements in air quality. Options will include walking & cycling routes, public transport, and car sharing. The location of car charging points for electric vehicles will also be provided.
