Luxury Apartment Development, Irvin Building, North Shields

Client: Gentoo

Architect: Reid Jubb Brown

Status: Complete

Retention of the existing facade was a key element in the development of the Irvin Building.  A four storey steel frame design with concrete floor slabs provides the main structure of the building situated at North Shields fish quay and overlooking the mouth of the River Tyne.  Underground car parking was made possible by deepening the existing structure with the construction of a contiguous piled wall.

Officially opened in February 2009, the Gentoo-owned Irvin Building now boasts 26 luxury apartments, a dental surgery and a restaurant.  This iconic landmark won the Residential category at the North East RICS Renaissance Awards 2010.
