At pre-planning stage, Patrick Parsons prepared all of the specialist supporting information for a planning application for the two-phased student accommodation scheme.

At this stage, we provided invaluable preliminary engineering design information to ensure that the scheme submitted for planning could be practically and commercially delivered on what was a very constrained and restricted site. Post planning, Patrick Parsons provided full multi-disciplinary engineering services.

Patrick Parsons identified at an early stage the construction restrictions associated with the city centre location, and an adjacent major electric substation, with the need to construct the main structural core of the building as quickly as possible.

Through close consultation with the principal contractor, it was agreed that a modern construction method using the slipform construction solution would be used for the main stair and lift core, which reduced this element of the construction by approximately one month. This allowed the main structural element of the building to be formed, which assisted in progressing the main superstructure and reduced the impact on the surrounding area.
